Selecting the Right Flatmate
Sharing the same house as someone who you don't get on with can be hell.
On the other hand, this might be the start of a life long relationship or
take you off in a direction you had never considered.
Culture
There are many practical aspects to different peoples culture that can impinge
on your life. Certain cultures demand lifestyle choices such as food, religious
commitment and social integration. Consider if these traits will impact on
your lifestyle.
Lifestyle
Consider if your lifestyles are likely to be compatible. If you are in your
mid 20's and you decide to share with someone in their 50's it is likely
that your choice of music may not quite be to their taste! They may even
object to you coming in drunk after a late night out. Also, do you share
similar work hours, taste in food and sense of humour etc.
Tidiness
Are you happy to live in a mess or do you need everything to be clean, tidy
and in its place. Make sure that your standards are similar to everyone else's.
If not, are you going to be comfortable compromising your standards?
Have You Met Everyone?
Make sure you meet everyone, just because you get on well at the viewing
doesn't mean that you will get on well with everyone else who lives at the
property. Try to get to meet everyone before making a decision.
I Fancy Them !!!
Falling in love at first sight is not a good reason to move in with someone.
In fact, if the relationship does not develop or fizzes out quickly you could
end up sharing with some who you come to despise.
Invite them out for a drink, if you really hit it off, you can always move
in together later.
House Rules
Everywhere has rules, written or unwritten. Try to find out about the rules
and make sure you are happy to adhere to them. If you enter a smooth running
house and disrupt it with your non observance of the rules, you will soon
be the cause of increasing acrimonious arguments.
